Episode 5: Homeless Health Care

Director of Operations Rasheen Oliver and Nurse in Charge Kimone Rodney of Homeless Health Peel, a nurse-run organization founded in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, discuss the importance of providing coordinated, cohesive healthcare to people experiencing homelessness by medical practitioners trained in trauma-informed care, as well as explore the existing gaps in homeless healthcare that currently complicate access to it.

Nurse in Charge | Homeless Health Peel | She/Her

Kimone obtained her Registered Practical Nursing diploma at The Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning. From a young age, she knew she would dedicate herself to helping others. With a particular interest in mental health, women’s health, preventative health, and palliative care, Kimone brings a dedication that is deeply rooted in her faith, to provide the highest quality of care to every one of our patients who have been left behind.

Rasheen Oliver

Director of Operations | Homeless Health Peel | She/Her

Rasheen has 9 years experience working as a RPN. She graduated from Sheridan College Institute of Advanced Learning, and started her career in long term care working with stable geriatric patients with comorbid mental health conditions, as well as complex behaviours. She brings this empathy and compassion to Homeless Health Peel where she views patients as individuals and not just a diagnosis. She has a passion for learning and teaching and is keen to have students with her.


About the Host:

Mya Moniz

Peer Support Leader | REST Centres She/Her

Mya is an independent youth and Former Crown Ward of the Peel Children’s Aid Society. She’s achieved an Honours Bachelor of Arts with High Distinction from the University of Toronto in English, Professional Writing and Communications, and Sociology. She also sits at the Senior Leadership Table for the Peel Alliance to End Homelessness as a youth with lived experience.

Mya believes there is great power in healing, growth, and catharsis through writing and storytelling, and she strives to help others tell their stories the way she tells hers.
